The Discovery Biotherapeutics team at BMS seeks to understand the structure and function of complex molecules such as bispecific antibodies, antibody drug conjugates and endogenous proteins in order to optimize their utility as therapeutic agents. We collaborate with biology and translational scientists imbedded in the Thematic Research Centers in order to prosecute Targets and Biological pathways with disease modifying potential. We are seeking a versatile protein engineer to join our Protein Engineering Group in Cambridge, MA in a lab-facing role. The ideal candidate is a scientific innovator with experience in antibody therapeutic engineering and optimization with a deep understanding of protein structure. The successful candidate will contribute to the strategy of biotherapeutic design and utilize their hands-on experiences to drive the successful implementation of these designs in multidisciplinary project teams. This protein engineer will contribute to the production and characterization of multispecific therapeutics through collaborations with the broader Discovery Biotherapeutic community at BMS. This is an ideal position for an experienced protein engineer who is enthusiastic about deploying creative solutions to design and optimization of a wide range of protein therapeutic modalities for the treatment of a diverse set of diseases.Basic QualificationsBachelor's Degree with 7+ years of academic / industry experienceOrMaster's Degree with 5+ years of academic / industry experienceOrPhD in Biology with 2+ years of academic / industry experienceDesired Skills And ExperiencesPhD in structural biology, biochemistry, or a closely related fieldExperience engineering antibody-based therapeutics to improve attributes such as activity, yield, immunogenicity, and developabilityExperience with high-throughput methods of cloning, production, and characterization (SDS-PAGE, SEC-MALS, MS, SPR/BLI, mass photometry) of multispecific therapeuticsDeep understanding of protein structure and function relationshipsDiverse hands-on experiences including protein expression and purificationFluency with generating and applying computational predictions and structural analysis in drug discovery projects (e.g. Schrodinger, MOE, and/or Rosetta)Proven record of active participation in team-based drug discovery in a pharmaceutical or biotechnology environment is preferredMust be highly self-motivated, detail-oriented, and well-organizedExcellent written and verbal presentation skills as evidenced through external publication and presentationIf you come across a role that intrigues you but doesn't perfectly line up with your resume, we encourage you to apply anyway.
