WSP is currently initiating a search for a full-time Senior
Hydropower Electrical Engineer - Power Interconnection Design for
our Seattle, WA office .The following locations will also be
considered: Boston, MA or Portland, OR .Be involved in projects
within our Clean Energy Business Line and be a part of a part of a
rapidly expanding group that provides trusted advisor and engineer
of record services to Hydropower and Utility clients throughout the
United States.This OpportunityThis position directly advances local
and regional responses to Climate Change by supporting the owners
and operators of clean hydro power and other renewable resources.
This position will provide delivery of high voltage electrical
designs related to local switch yards and grid interconnection for
our hydropower projects, including pumped storage, in support of
the build-out of the bulk electric system in support of this clean
power in the West. Work with interdisciplinary teams on various
hydropower and utility services projects. Perform engineering
duties from conceptual stages of projects through construction.
Procurement of materials, project cost estimating, and quality
control reviews. Work with drafting department to prepare drawings
and specifications for various deliverables. Regularly meet and
corresponds with clients, material vendors, and sub-contractors.
Travel for project site meeting and field evaluations. Actively
engages and supports business development initiatives in the
hydropower market.This a fantastic chance to work with a dynamic

Impact
- This position is accountable to provide the design activities
in accordance with all applicable codes and standards, including
all WSP's policies and procedures, such as Safety, Environmental,
Quality Assurance and Quality Control.
- Design of hydropower facility electrical infrastructure and
equipment, at power houses, pump houses and meter/relay houses, as
well as interconnection devices such as transformers, relays, and
switches, and as station service equipment.
- Energy usage analysis in close coordination with transit
planning resources.
- Utility Coordination, load studies, balance authority and
interconnection agreements.
- WEC, FERC, and NERC CIP design, as well as compliance
documentation.
- Delivery of accurate and thorough designs that will meet
industry standards and specifications and meet good engineering
practice with excellent constructability.
- Prepare project specifications for material and equipment
purchase and installation.
- Review of internal and external designs for code compliance,
good design practice and constructability.
- Resolving site queries, attending site meetings, and performing
site inspections during the construction phase of projects.
- Maintaining complete project documentation with respect to
substation design and construction, including all completion
packages, as-built requirements and return data information.
- Making and maintaining appropriate commitments to project teams
and coordinating design activities with multi-disciplined project
team members.
- Maintaining good working relationships with internal groups
that support projects.
- Maintaining good working relationships with material suppliers,
contractors, and any others that affect the quality, schedule, and
cost of projects.Required Qualifications
- Employment authorization to work in the United States
immediately
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET
accredited engineering program
- 5+ years working experience in high-voltage design for
renewable developers and electrical utility clients supporting
integrated generation and transmission on 69kV to 500kV.
- Engineer license or the ability to acquire within one year
(Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Utah, California, Nevada, or Montana
preferred).
- Knowledge of applicable industry standards including the
National Electric Code (NEC), National --- Electric Safety Code
(NESC), and IEEE.
- This position is accountable to provide the design activities
in accordance with all applicable codes and standards, including
all WSP's policies and procedures, such as Safety, Environmental,
Quality Assurance and Quality Control. Specific duties
include:
- Work under mentorship and guidance of the Supervising
Engineer.
- Prepare substation plan and profile view, grounding, lightning
protection, lighting, cable trench, cable trays, conduit layout and
detail installation drawings.
- Have knowledge of related disciplines/fields of engineering. Be
comfortable operating within a multi-discipline design team.
- Prepare studies and design calculations such as load flow,
short circuit, Arc Flash, grounding, TOV, EMF, transformer sizing,
cable sizing etc. using software including WinIGS, ETAP, SKM,
CDEGS, CYMCAP. Study reports must be clear and well written.
- Provide percent complete as well as Estimated Time to
Completion when requested by project managers or lead
engineers.
- Provide input into improvement ideas during project execution
and close-out.
- Prepare technical specifications for the electrical equipment,
evaluate proposals from vendors, and review vendor drawings.
- Possess working knowledge of design software including AutoCAD
and MicroStation. May be required to prepare or revise design
drawings.
- Delivery of accurate and thorough designs that will meet
industry standards and specifications and meet good engineering
practice with excellent constructability.
- Resolving site queries, attending site meetings and performing
site inspections during the construction phase of projects.
- Maintaining complete project documentation with respect to
substation design and construction, including all completion
packages, as-built requirements and return data information.
- Experienced user MS Office applications, strong written and
verbal communication skills and attention to detail
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific
requirements.
- Candidate must undergo pre-employment drug screening and a
criminal background investigation.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability
to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment
policies.Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in electrical engineering.
- Experience working in consulting firms and hydro, solar, wind,
biomass, and thermal projects.
- 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR
1910.120) preferred.
- Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.WSP Benefits:WSP

WA) $100,000 - $160,000WSP USA is providing the compensation range
